I believe the content of this episode may have been teased by Dave Filoni a long time ago, possibly at a previous Celebration, but I’d still forgotten it was coming.
During a recent press conference for The Bad Batch, supervising director and executive producer Brad Rau explained the reasoning behind the show's animated style. As some might have noted, The Bad Batch looks like The Clone Wars, but not Rebels. There's a reason for this, and it's largely because of The Bad Batch 's connection to the former. It's a season 1. Is what it is. It was better than clone wars or rebels were in season 1. It needed to do all the set up and worldbuilding and yeah some of that is filler. Like establishing the bad batch took on these missions. It did a good job of continuing the main plot throughout even in filler episodes. The Bad Batch is the next Star Wars animated series, a direct sequel to The Clone Wars that brings back the colorful characters of Clone Force 99. The series finds elite clone troopers Hunter Commander Cody nearly appeared in Star Wars Rebels, but the storyline was cut - with some adjustments, it could bring Cody into The Bad Batch. Thanks to a proposed but ultimately unused storyline in Star Wars Rebels, a fan-favorite Clone Trooper, Commander Cody, may return in the upcoming animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
Fortunately, "The Bad Batch" Season 2 already seems to spend more time on the other main characters, with Tech and Echo particularly getting some great moments in the two-part season opener.
